2026 Cherry Blossom Run: Check Presentation & Capitol Hill Competition Packet Pick-Up
Published: April 10, 2026
Cherry Blossom Race weekend has kicked off with the Capitol Hill Competition Packet Pick-Ups and Credit Union Check Presentation, which occurred on April 9 and 10.
The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run is a charitable nonprofit organization of which the proceeds from its events go on to support Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) and their hospitals across the United States and Canada. Since Credit Union Miracle Day (CUMD), a consortium of credit unions across the country, became the title sponsor of the race in 2002 the race has donated over $11.5 million to CMN hospitals. Nationwide, credit unions are the 3rd largest fundraisers for CMN hospitals and in total have raised over $20.5 million dollars in benefit.
Speakers included John Bratsakis, Chair of Credit Union Miracle Day; Tricia Szurgot, CEO and President of Congressional Federal Credit Union; Arthur Green, CXMO of the United States Senate Federal Credit Union (USSFCU), representing the credit union on Tim Anderson’s behalf; Shelby Stallings, Director of CMN Programs at the Children’s National Hospital Foundation; speakers from presenting sponsors Americas Credit Unions, Velera, and TruStage; and Keira D’Amato, an elite runner holding multiple American women’s running records.
Additionally speaking at the check presentation was Zoé – a Children’s Miracle Network Champion, representing the children and families whose lives have been positively impacted by the treatment and care they have received through CMN hospitals. Zoé, age 12, was a recipient of such care at our very own Children’s National in Washington D.C. and marked her four years cancer-free as she spoke to the audience on her own advocacy for CMN support just as they had supported her.
This year, the race has raised $506,230 for the Children's Miracle Network. 163 members of Congress – 28 of whom are Senators – became honorary race chairs representing 43 states, the District of Columbia, America Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands. 7,000 runners of the race self-identify as credit union members.
Within the Cherry Blossom Run 10 Mile Race there lies another race – the Capitol Hill Competition – which pits teams organized from Senate and House offices against each other to win the prestigious Capitol Hill Competition Cup. Although last year the Senate side may have lost to the House, Senate runners are looking for a strong comeback to resume their reign as Capitol Hill’s best runners.
Good luck runners!
