USSFCU Hosts Kenyan Delegation for Discussion on Global Financial Cooperation

The U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union (USSFCU) proudly hosted a distinguished delegation from Kenya for a lunch reception and discussion on financial cooperation, economic trends, and regulatory frameworks. The delegation included representatives from the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations (ACCOSCA), the African Cooperative Development Foundation, and members of the Kenyan government.

The delegation was comprised of:

  • The Honorable Patrick Kilemi – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Cooperatives, Kenya
  • George Ombado – Executive Director, African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations (ACCOSCA)
  • Grace Watsiera – Executive Director, African Cooperative Development Foundation (ACDF)
  • Elias Kaleria – Representative, Kenya
  • David Mategwa – Chairman, Kenya Union of Savings & Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO)
  • Lois Kitsch – Chairperson, African Cooperative Development Foundation

The meeting provided a valuable forum for an exchange of ideas between USSFCU leadership and the visiting delegation, with a focus on key financial topics such as inflation, trade, and the regulatory landscape of cooperative financial institutions. Discussions highlighted the operational similarities and differences between financial cooperatives in the United States and across Africa, fostering a deeper understanding of global financial trends and cooperative banking structures.

One of the primary topics explored was the challenge of managing a cooperative that serves members from diverse economic backgrounds, currencies, and governmental structures. The Kenyan delegation shared insights into the complexities of navigating financial stability, cross-border trade, and regulatory frameworks that vary significantly across African nations.

“This was an invaluable discussion that underscored the importance of international collaboration in the financial sector,” said USSFCU President & CEO Timothy L. Anderson. “By sharing perspectives and challenges, we can identify innovative ways to support cooperative financial institutions worldwide and strengthen financial inclusion efforts.”

The visit reinforced USSFCU’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and engaging in meaningful dialogue with international financial leaders.
