U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union presents a $15,000 donation to Comfort Cases, a charity organization working to provide proper bags and essential items to children in foster care.
Credit Union Board Member Anthony J. Zagami presents Mr. Rob Scheer, Comfort Cases Co-Founder, a check at the 5th Annual Comfort Cases Gala, held in Washington, DC., Saturday, May 18.
Comfort Cases, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group, was launched in 2013 with the goal of eradicating trash bags from the U.S. foster-care system and providing dignity and comfort to children who often feel alone and unwanted. A Comfort Case is a small duffel bag or backpack filed with essential items such as shampoo and tooth paste as well as comfort items such as blankets and stuffed animals.
Every child deserves to pack their belongings in a special bag that they can call their own. At Comfort Cases, it is their mission to provide a proper bag, filled with comfort and essential items, to these brave youth in foster care as they journey to find their forever home.
Of the thousands of youth who enter the system each year, most arrive carrying little more than the clothes on their backs. If they are afforded the opportunity to collect any personal belongings, many are given a trash bag in which to place and carry their personal items. It is a time of great instability, and their first foster home is unlikely to be their last. Many youth in foster care will be moved from home to home multiple times, carrying their life’s treasures in a trash bag.
Since its start in 2013, Comfort Cases has donated more than 11,200 cases in over 32 states, making an impact on the lives of 40,000 foster children. Learn more about the work of this amazing organization at comfortcases.org.
